Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) (2025)
Logo/Branding

Working with Lara Media Services (LMS), I had the opportunity to work on the rebrand for ODHS.

The branding as a whole was a collaborative effort between me and a coworker at LMS, but I am proud to say that the logo the client ended up going with was my design.

Focus group surveys showed that their old logo felt dated and sterile, and there were concerns about people having a negative association to ODHS because of its similar initials to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Changing the agency’s name wasn’t an option, but in order to make the difference between the two more immediately apparent, I proposed a change in typography that centers “Human Services” as the words that stand out the most in the logo.

Conceptually, the main idea for my logo design was to put a focus on community and collective strength. The logomark achieves this by representing humans coming together in the shape of a blooming flower, hinting at the idea that the services provided by ODHS are here to help everyone thrive.

To the left is the final, approved version of the logo, and below there’s some early concepts where I was exploring similar ideas.
